Day 2

On the second day, for breakfast, we had some fresh pastries from the local patisserie for breakfast before planning a walk for the day.

Afterwards, we made a packed lunch for the walk and planned the route that we would go.

We walked from the apartment through the harbor and down to the beach. On the way, there was a coastguard exercise taking place, so that made for a great opportunity to do some photography. Here are some pictures we took.

Once we got to the beach, we walked along it for a few hours to get to the Fort de Dunes. Along the way, we saw the 'Dunkirk Allies Memorial'. (Starting from the left is the Dunkirk flag, then the German flag, French flag, Union Jack, then the Dunkirk flag again)

This is the route we took to get to Fort de Dunes. The part where we went in a circle in the left of the picture is where we saw the coastguard exercise, and the part at the far right is the Fort de Dunes.

Outside the fort

A movie playing inside the museum

The museum was very interesting, and we learnt how the fort was used in the Franco-Prussian war as well as in WWII, however not in WWI. After looking around the Fort de Dunes, we got a bus (which was completely free!) back to the apartment to get changed. (We planned to swim in the sea if the weather was nice).

Once we had got back and changed, we set off to the Bray Dunes to walk along the beach and look at all the pillboxes.

We walked through the dunes for about an hour, checking out the different pillboxes before heading back and walking though the sea. (It was too cold to go swimming)

Once we got back to the car, we drove off to the Belgium boarder. It took roughly 20 minutes to get there.

(standing on the boarder, though weirdly, the Belgium sign was further up)

After visiting the Belgium boarder, we drove back to the apartment to shower and get ready to go out for dinner and try some french cuisine.

We looked around for a little bit and in the end decided to go to a restaurant called Le Clet'che, as it wasn't too busy and looked quite nice.

Steak Haché

Once we had finished, we set off back to the apartment. As we were walking back, we walked past the town hall, which was lit up.
